The Food Runner position is an extremely demanding position and not all people are cut out for this kind of work.The Food Runner is the liaison, the ‘’human connection’’ between the chef de cuisine, the pastry chef, their teams and the restaurant areas entire team!The Food Runner is a well trained Restaurant Server professional who has the ability to work under extreme pressure, collaborate and keep multi-team view and tranquility.Wherever you see a professional Restaurant Server Food Runner, remember that this person or team is or are very flexible in mind control and extremely endurable people.
 
Duties and responsibilities
  • Prepare your ‘’Service Station’’ with special attention. Order and hygiene rules MUST ALWAYS be followed and met at all times. The Service Station will support all the service procedures during all working hours of the restaurant and especially peek-times. Restaurant Menus, China and Silver-Ware, napkins, towels, toothpicks, ménages, salt, pepper, peppermills, sous-plats, sous-veures, first aid kits, water and wine glasses, service trays and service stands, table cleaning materials, pens and order sheets are most of what you will encounter in a service station. The Food Runner is responsible for cleaning, refilling and keeping up-to-date his service station
  • Be always informed of all the plates-recipes, lack of ingredients or what are the plates to ‘’be pushed’’ and plates of the day. Inform and offer your assist to the team of the Restaurant for every new change chef does or wants to inform the restaurant team, during your shift
  • The Food Runner is the ‘’intermediate connection’’ for any information or change about an order, from Restaurant Servers to Chef and Vice Versa. You MUST Collaborate with all restaurant servers and kitchen/bar staff
  • Deal with complaints or problems with a positive attitude and immediately inform the Chef and the Restaurant Manager so as for quick and immediate solution!

  • Responsible and trustworthy
  • Attention to cleanliness and safety
  • Proficiency in English is a MUST, (other spoken and written languages will be an extra asset for this position)
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with restaurant POS software
  • Strong personality, motivational and people skills
  • Culinary school diploma or BS degree in Tourism, Business Administration, food safety training will be considered a MUST
  • Good memory and plan follower
 

Working conditions

The Food Runner position requires a person to work in special working conditions.
 
Special working conditions cover a range of circumstances from regular evening and weekend work, shift work, working outdoors and working with challenging clients.
 
The Food Runner MUST be accurate, and follow the time-schedule of the restaurant team.
 
Collaborate with all other departments for the best results, in the best manner, in good professionalism and good faith.
 
Inform of all the changes of any/every plate-ingredient, ‘’push’’ plates, changed recipes, plates of the day, to the Restaurant Team at any given time at the restaurant, during your shift.
 
The Food Runner is responsible for delivering accurately and in time all orders to specific service stations. MUST ALWAYS FOLLOW the instructions of the Chef de Cuisine & Restaurant Manager without hesitation or second thoughts or do something he thinks better.
 
The Food Runner is responsible for the service station of his post and the assistance he offers to the Restaurant Servers so as for the guests/customers to enjoy a detailed professional service experience from the moment they arrive till the time they leave from the restaurant and must always collaborate with the other departments (kitchen, bar, beach cashiers) at all times for optimum results.
 
Physical requirements
The Food Runner’s position is an extremely physically demanding position. You will be required to stand for extended periods of time, lift heavy objects, do repetitive tasks with one break, and be responsible for the entire communication between the Restaurant Team and Chef’s Team and OF ALL ORDERS DELIVERANCE.
