The Restaurant Server’s position is by nature a demanding position and no one is being asked to perform so many tasks at any given time from his/her first day at work.Usually it takes time, practice and exercise for all the tasks described in the ''Restaurant Server Job Description'' section,so as to build-up experience. That means that everyone starts from a ‘’lower in rank’’ position with less responsibilities but more given orders from the waiter (A’) to be followed.Wherever you see a professional Restaurant Server doing a great job, that means that there is or are also very well and professionally trained Assistant Restaurant Servers that do an excellent job!
 
Duties and responsibilities
  • Prepare the ‘’Service Stations’’ with special attention. Order and hygiene rules MUST ALWAYS be followed and met at these places. The Service Stations are those ‘’machines’’ that will support all the service procedures during all working hours of the restaurant and especially peek-times. Restaurant Menus, China and Silver-Ware, napkins, towels, toothpicks, ménages, salt, pepper, peppermills, sous-plats, sous-veures, first aid kits, water and wine glasses, service trays, table cleaning materials, pens and order sheets are most of what you will encounter in a service station. The Assistant Restaurant Server is responsible for cleaning, refilling and keeping up-to-date his service station
  • Attend to customers upon sitting and offering the first smile and the very first thing they will taste in a respectful restaurant: A CLEAN GLASS OF CLEAN WATER!
  • Present yourself, the menus and help customers select beverages till the Restaurant Server comes to take their order
  • After the order your Restaurant Server colleague which you work with at your post (specific area/tables of a restaurant – table plan) MUST ALWAYS INFORM YOU for any special occasion on any table. These information include any allergies any guest/customer might have, any special demands or needs, the specific order per person/per table (plates, wine or other drinks)
  • Collaborate with other assistant restaurant servers and kitchen/bar staff
  • Deal with complaints or problems with a positive attitude and immediately inform your restaurant server which you work as a pair/team
  • Immediately inform your restaurant server which you work as a pair/team whenever a guest/client asks for her/his bills
  • Promote dedication from customers
 

Qualifications

  • Customer-oriented approach and patience
  • Problem solving and decision making skills (will increase as you gain more experience)
  • Excellent people skills
  • Responsible and trustworthy
  • Attention to cleanliness and safety
  • Proficiency in English is a MUST, (other spoken and written languages will be an extra asset for this position)
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with restaurant POS software
  • Strong personality, motivational and people skills
  • Culinary school diploma or BS degree in Tourism, Business Administration, food safety training will be considered a MUST
 

Working conditions

The Assistant Restaurant Server position requires a person to work in special working conditions.
 
Special working conditions cover a range of circumstances from regular evening and weekend work, shift work, working outdoors and working with challenging clients.
 
The Assistant Restaurant Server MUST be accurate, and follow the time-schedule of the restaurant team.
 
Collaborate with all other departments for the best results, in the best manner, in good professionalism and good faith.
 
Inform of all the changes or requests of any/every guest/client to your Restaurant Server colleague which you work with as a pair/team at any given time at the restaurant.
 
The Assistant Restaurant Server is responsible for assisting and MUST ALWAYS FOLLOW the instructions of his Restaurant Server which he/she work with as a pair/team without hesitation or second thoughts or do something he/she thinks better
 
The Assistant Restaurant Server is responsible for the service stations and the assistance he offers to the Restaurant Server so as for the guests/customers to enjoy a detailed professional service experience from the moment they arrive till the time they leave from the restaurant and must always collaborate with the other departments (kitchen, bar, beach cashiers) at all times for optimum results. BUT NEVER EVER leave his team/pair alone or get paid by a table.
 
Physical requirements
The Assistant Restaurant Server’s position is a physically very demanding position. You will be required to stand for extended periods of time, lift heavy objects, do repetitive tasks with one break, and be responsible for the service stations and operations during service and also assisting guests and the Restaurant Server which you work with as a pair/team.
